Why I see future in YouTube compared to other platforms

So, first official post after hello world? Well here we go!

You might've seen that the only platform I'm mostly active on is YouTube but why is that?

YouTube Image

Well, after experimenting with social media different platforms, I feel like personally YouTube is the place where you can provide value along with being genuine.

Especially with a personal brand and this AI era where genuine content is vital.

I also think video is a great format for me personally although I'm still finding my way on what suits well in terms of providing value.

Experience with other platforms

Platforms like X and Threads are nice but the interactions started to become less genuine to be honest.

One of the reasons I left those platforms was that they weren't really content driven but more engagement driven.

Now sure, you can argue that the best format is conversational and if that works for you, good on ya.

But to me, it doesn't seem genuine enough and doesn't seem like it's getting any better.

Instagram can definitely be an option but that's if you're short form focused. If you're going just by pictures, forget it.

I've seen many of those who had a passion of taking pictures give up on Instagram because the platform favours more short form and adaptability to their new features.

And to me, I could attempt it, but I would go all in. But in order for me to go all in, I must consume on the platform as a beginner. Which leads to my next point.

Social media platforms are consumption heavy

I mean, to get ideas we need to consume but it's a big trap as well. Because, whilst you're consuming, you can trap yourself to not take action.

I'm already not a big fan of short form content and to get myself consuming that is a no go.

But if you look at it in the perspective of X/Threads, consumption is part of engagement. I mean you have to view a post and interact and you can fall in to that loop.

So after 2 years of running my brand on this platform, I've decided to embrace YouTube.

Why YouTube?

So when I initially started this YouTube channel, I wanted to stream. Turns out you need a good audience for that and streaming is not YouTube's strength compared to Twitch.

Don't get me wrong, I still feel like one day I can come back and do it but I would prefer to have some people along the way as it's more fun.

But one advantage of streaming on YouTube is that they're videos as well or in other words, VODs.

Anyways, I started toying around the video idea with some tutorials and to be honest, no matter how they do, there's a great satisfaction of creating it.

Sure they haven't done so well but each video I upload, there's valuable lessons that come out of it and so I then aim to try to improve it.

Another thing is that I'm heavily focused on the content. Yes I have to focus on attracting the audience but I don't have to fake engage and distract myself in order to do so. It's all purely in the video!

Now I've got a long way with this but I'm happy with the format plus it seems like the right place for me.

Audience

Also, I feel like YouTube's a great place to get genuine audience. Not those that have some objective to follow you temporarily to get a follow back. People subscribe to you because they're interested in your content.

If I look in the perspective of a consumer, I don't just subscribe for the sake of it. I genuinely like their content and I want it in my feed.

Maybe it can be true on Instagram and TikTok but on writing platforms, it's a hit or miss.

But isn't that putting eggs in one basket

Look, we all gotta start somewhere and I do advocate for diversification but if you're starting out, just focus on one thing at a time and improve step by step.

Ignore the pressure from outside and figure your way out. Everyone has their own journey to build themselves up and it will take time. But all the hardwork will pay off.

So should I start a YouTube channel?

Normally people would straight away say yes, but I'm going to pose this question to you.

"Is Z platform best suited for me?"

Because everyone has different skills and it can be achievable, it depends on how you work.

I lean yes because I believe it's a platform where people are more genuine and there's constant value being delivered in the video format.

I honestly see big future with YouTube and it's just the beginning.

But, ultimately it depends if that's what you want to focus on.

Maybe X/Threads is the platform for you or you're good with short form content that you can do TikToks/Instagram Reels/YouTube Shorts.
